Effective Laser and Light Treatment without Causing Cicatricial
or Permanent Dyschromic Effects
What is the laser removal of Benign Pigmented Lesions?
Senile and solar benign pigmented lesions can appear with skin aging, especially on the body areas that have been exposed to the sun the most. Other kind of pigmented lesions can have different origins and can even be present since birth, after skin injury or after pregnancy. The laser technology is capable to emit extremely short pulses that can selectively interact with undesired melanin concentrations of the skin spots removing them quickly and effectively.
To whom is it recommended?
This treatment is indicated to patients with benign skin spots like lentigo, freckles, melasma, post-pregnancy spots, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, Ito and Ota nevi. These skin disorders must undergo a specific medical examination before laser treatment.
What is the preparation for the treatment?
It is strongly suggested to avoid sun exposure or sunlamps for at least two months before the treatment and to use high protection filtering sunscreens (SPF 30+ or 50+).
The patient could be requested, in some occasions, to apply preparatory creams before the session.
How many treatments are necessary?
This kind of treatment can request from one to several sessions depending on the nature and extension of skin pigmentation and phototype.
How long does a session last?
A session can last for few minutes depending on the number and extension of the marks to be treated.
Soon after the treatment, the patient could feel a light discomfort that will disappear in the next few minutes.
What to do after the treatment?
It will be possible to note redness on the treated area but it will tend to tone down just in few hours.
The treated spot could darken usually for about one or two weeks. It will be important to avoid the use of cosmetics and hot water on the treated area for two or three days after the treatment. The patient will also have to protect the skin with sunscreens for four or five weeks after the session.
What results to expected?
The improvement or the removal of the disorder requires different times depending on the kind of spot, with an average of two to four weeks after each session.
